Reflection

Mohammed started with an introduction that showed the meaning of deforestation with means cutting down trees to make it into a non- forest land for transportation and to make more space for building houses .But the side effect of deforestation made African men change, From their traditional living to African businessmen, and made the soil very moist from the lack of trees. Also the slides were clear and made us realize the real life of the people who are struggling in Africa. Mohammed’s body language was very good and his way of talking was clear but his eyes were looking only to Mr. Hedley. He made sure that the students learned from his presentation by answering their questions in a good way and to send a clear message about the dangers of deforestation.

Reflection
Date: 24 April 2012
Venue: T001
Subject: TV
Mohammad Bassam   was in a group of three; he talked about part of ICT which was the History of Television. He added good clear slides which talked about the historical and technological way of building an electronic device in the 1930 s.  The screen was small with no color and sound, and in the early days they didn’t use a dish; they used a very thin material which transmitted a decent picture but in the1960s color TV was introduced; it was developed year after year; at the beginning of the 2000 s a debut which shocked the people was LCD TV. It was big size and more colourful .Today we have 3D TV.
Mohammad's body language was good but his eye contact was looking only to Mr. Hedley. And no one asked him any questions.

Meeting Report
Problem: Experimental international college
Date and time of Meeting:21th March 2012, 02:12 P.m.
Venue: W003
Equipment: Computers, papers and pencils.
Group members:
Chair: Abu Baker Abdulrhman
Minute’s taker: Khalid
Participant: Faisal Fahed

Agenda:
· Advantages of the program
· Disadvantages of the program
· Benefits of the program to the college and the country
· The problems that the international student may face.

The chairman Abu Baker opened the meeting at 2:20 p.m.
1- Advantages of the program
· Faisal explained one of the advantages which was lifelong friendships. Faisal told a story from his personal experience about his friend Jhan which Abubaker and Khalid really liked and found helpful.
· Students gained a wider perspective of other cultures than their own and Faisal said that he had learned a lot about other cultures and a few foreign words. Khalid said that he agreed and he could relate this to personal experiences. Abu baker said that it will help the community to be aware of other cultures.
· At this point Faisal began to explain about the daily challenges through language barriers. Abu Baker said that he believed the best way to learn is to be in the field; this is because learning from your own experience will give you self confidence

Disadvantages:
Faisal said that one of the disadvantages was some of the foreigners may have some traditions that will not go with our traditions. Such as the young Emirati girls started to not wear the abaya because of the western traditions, which is against our religion and traditions.
Abu Baker commented that this is a live example and this is a phenomenon which is getting bigger and bigger. However it should not be a problem; it is our role to stop it by making people aware of the results that may happen because of not wearing the abaya.
Faisal added one more disadvantage which is mixed gender. For old Emiratis that will be a huge problem.
Abu Baker said that some families will not allow their sons and daughters to go to college because of that. Moreover it is against our religion and traditions. So what can we do to get over this?
Khalid said that giving them a taste of current reality is the best solution.
The international student could be a good idea.
Here Abu Baker suggested to try to solve some of these problems like cultural shock and stereotypes. Faisal explained what cultural shock is and the solution. From his point of view, the only time we can really solve this problem( here Khalid disagreed) is when we do an orientation week to help ; this will provide the students with a booklet and some orientation classes. Here Faisal started to explain about some of the stereotypes and they agreed on this. We can only be solve this problem, by spreading awareness

In conclusion we thought that:
1. -Anything new will face a lot of problems and challenges which must not frustrate us.
2. - Disadvantages should not be an obstacle because we can find some solutions to these.
3. - To get to the top you will face a lot of problems and challenges that you should overcome.

And here Abu Baker ended the meeting

Adel
I was the one who interviewed Adel; he loves his job as a mechanic; he was a little nervous because he was not prepared, and he seemed scared by some of the questions. On the other hand he asked good questions because he is studying at HCT when his company gives him permission to leave early to study in the afternoon.
